My husband and I recently returned from a fabulous vacation in San Diego where we attended our first Tiki Oasis.
Tiki Oasis is a weekend celebration of all things vintage, surf rock bands, the aloha spirit and much, much more. This year the theme was retro space age so there were aliens and robots in addition to go-go dancers and tropical fun. Fezs off to Derek Yaniger who created all the awesome artwork!
There were family friendly events like this sing-along with King Kukulele.
A poolside fashion show.
Yes, it was a family event!
There were pinup girls everywhere! I participated in the Pinup Safari as a photographer. My first time shooting this style.
Tiki Oasis takes over the Crowne Plaza hotel each year so there are tons of room parties!
The best part was seeing so many bands at such small venues/hotel rooms. One of our Bay area favorites, the Phenomenauts from Oakland, headlined on Friday and our new favorites, The Little Richards (with super star El Vez), The Schizophonics and Man or Astro-man? (above) on Saturday night.
There were symposiums where one could learn the intricacies of creating perfect cocktails, the history of intergalactic music, posing for pinup to name just a few.
I know this isn’t the most flattering photo but I want to shout out to the hosts, Baby Doe & Otto and the 100s of volunteers! I know how hard it is to organize an event and you all rocked it! See you next year. #tikio
